Commissioned by Polydor Records, the directing duo BABY used a hybrid of live action, volumetric capture, AI de-lighting and re-lighting, and CGI to create this apocalyptic world for EV's latest music video Chaos.
The live action segments were shot using a Sony FX3, were rotoscoped onto clean alpha layers, and were brought into a new software that de-lights the subject. That means it takes away all of the ambient lighting from the real world, enabling a 3D artist to re-light the subject with VFX.
BABY used various plates of the artist and several cast members who feature in the video, from running sequences to performance shots and spins on a turntable. This was then sent through the CGI mill to create an other worldly outcome.
This was an ambitious project to tackle. Testing new technologies to transform simple rushes into something that transports us to new territories.
